You could string a clothes line between them and dry a single sock.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a bunch of anime where the houses were this close and usually they're super friendly and the kids are in that obnoxious state of "I like you but I will never say it" and in one the kids just would jump from one balcony to another and then they just slipped and fell instead and I was left permanently traumatized and expecting it to happen whenever something similar happens.
Jigoku Shoujo season 2, I had some details wrong about the scene but someone on reddit was able to identify the scene I was thinking about. It was rather a scene where a kinda scummy guy was using a girl he liked that lived across the way like in said image but instead he was trying to get her to open her window when he started climbing across where once she opened her window, he slipped and fell to his death with her watching.

The Window Next Door, one of Junji Ito's many very silly stories.
It's really interesting how Junji Ito stories are only really scary because of the art, the plot lines could easily just be a tale told to children or a comedy, and all you have to do is change the images.
Anybody need a cup of sugar? Some ice cubes? A few slices of bread? Just let me know and I'll hand it over the railing.
