My phone is an Oppo, running Androids Color OS

I can't seem to find "metis" on the app list.

I fucking hate surveillance capitalism that downloads these things without my consent.

How the fuck do I get rid of this thing?

I said no, Metis, no means no. Stop asking. I don't even use screencast

Scene recognition

You have to hit "show system apps" then look for Metis on the app list.

ColorOS/Oxygen OS/RealMe UI is basically malware.

Honestly, all of the major Chinese phone manufacturers are among the worst of the worst when it comes to having awful UI customizations and ads shoved in, it's the number one thing holding Chinese phone dominance back.

It's the same situation as Samsung, great hardware hampered by the most dogshit unnecessary software changes imaginable.

You might be able to turn it off without rooting the phone

The canta app uses shizuku to let you get at all of those system apps that you can't normally uninstall. It has recommendations for how safe it is to disable various bits, you can really get deep with it if you've got the courage and get a much leaner phone.

Scene recognition and smart reminders are absolutely not "basic system functions." They are, at best useful Android skin features and at worst vector's for data harvesting.

If I read "basic system functions," I expect task scheduling, polling for touch inputs, and plugging in a USB cable to charge the phone.

If it were me I'd wipe out the original operating system and install a custom ROM, though I'm more technically minded than the average person. There's probably a less aggressive mod that lets you disable or uninstall the default apps if that appeals more to you. Maybe research whether you can get root access on your phone?
