Is this year's going to be that dark? I was in rehab for the one in 2017 and it just got dim outside no nighttime like conditions.
The sun's corona is typically as bright as a full moon so not pitch black but still dark. That doesn't really apply unless you're in totality. Even 1% of the sun is bright as fuck
You need to be in the totality zone for significant darkness. 99% doesn't quite cut it. That would be certainly much darker than a normal day but still much brighter than night.
Totality is when the moon FULLY blocks the sun, you'll see the moon surrounded by the sun's Corona with a brightness of about a full moon, and what looks like a sunset all around you. Not quite night dark but you can see stars for sure.
