  • I think we agree, I only wanna quibble over the word "fight" though. I can fight even if I know I'll lose. And in the meantime I get to be more in touch with my body, and it'll perform better and withstand the insults of daily life better than if I hadn't bothered. I'm not trying to imply my stretches and PT can stop or reverse the natural aging process. Just putting myself in a better position to deal with what I already know is coming. Peace.

  • Shit happens and it will get worse. Let me join the others in welcoming you to middle age.

Highly recommend mobility and strength exercises for your trouble spots. Make it strong and it's less likely to blow up on you from mundane normal activities.

Personal anecdote: I have a shitty back and I had to start PT and exercises bc I can't be laid up an entire week from putting fruit down on the kitchen counter again

  • Really showing my age but I had an acct there from before it cost to join. I remember it being full of problematic but ironic humor (proto Cum Town) back then, so it's interesting to read about it changing... wasn't it always like that?

I had fun lurking there but I was a dumbass kid. I grew out of that phase and checked in less and less. Eventually there was a subforum dedicated to roasting and bodyshaming other users and that turned me off the place forever. I think that was like 15 years ago, jfc. Guess it hasn't changed since then. Gross.

I don't necessarily believe the author would condone literal pain on the operating table (or ... the other thing you said) but I don't have to because he's clearly OK with inflicting financial ruin on people. See Red Wizard's post for what I mean. That's enough for me to oppose this clown.

This time they sprinkled some fraud flakes on it right out of the oven but it's the same dish. There's no copy of Health Communism next to the cookbooks in this kitchen, all the chefs are bankers and MBAs and they don't give a fuck as long as the tab is paid

  • Hah I can relate! My "special interest" wound up having a very niche application related to QC and ergonomics... essentially like you say, by understanding the "why" behind decision making you can help people make better decisions. I've been a professional nag before and it took a while to develop the skills to deliver criticism constructively... anyway if you're getting positive reactions then keep doing what you're doing! That's really great!

Good luck with the new work next year. Here's something else I learned which helped me turn the corner it seems like you're approaching. Maybe it'll help you: if you make it easy for people to do the right thing, they will. Easier said than done, and it requires agency to change things, and willing management, but if you can pull it off there's far less of telling people they're wrong because... they got it right in the first place.

This is just the reheated "insurers play a vital role by efficiently allocating limited resources" bullshit we've been served a million times already.

I can tell this dipshit's never met an anesthesiologist and has no idea what he's talking about. If they were gaming insurance they'd do more patients faster! And the anesthesiologists I've encountered hate nothing like they hate doing their jobs... the idea of them needlessly prolonging their time in a case is just laughable to me.
