A U.S. Senate committee on Wednesday approved legislation that would significantly enhance U.S. military support for Taiwan, including provisions for billions of dollars in additional security assistance, as China increases military pressure on the democratically governed island.
You really gotta wonder if the folks in DC realize that they're performing the throes of a dying nation as they spend the last bit of stability funneling wealth towards the Military Industrial Complex and they just think they're gonna be able to get out ahead of it, or are they really that dumb that they think this is the behavior of healthy empire in its prime? Heavily leaning towards the latter, personally.

Its ten Americans in a bunker staring at a board game map and planning out the next chess move squaring off against thousands of Beijing's top bureaucrats, diplomats, engineers, and economic planners staring at a ten year long timeline and estimating how it will impact their plan for the next century.
The DC crowd knows they only have another two years to implement a plan to contain China, before the next administration sweeps the board and starts over again. So everything has to happen ASAP and deliver the biggest impact possible. In Beijing, leaders have the luxury of a continuous government wherein the successor to the Chairmanship comes up executing the plan of the current administration.
It isn't so much an issue of Smart versus Dumb, but one in which a particular official is bounced in and out of the public sector with every election cycle. Americans only have the opportunity to execute a plan on the scale of months rather than decades.
