i had some field classes for pre-vet students where we would occasionally observe some practice associated with domestic animal husbandry. like dehorning / tail docking / castrating. of course, people were free to walk away/move around which is different than this ceremonial crap, they said the same thing: never lock your knees and make sure to bend them if you feel strange (head swimmy). it's much safer in terms of head injuries to crumple to the floor than to fall in a line like this guy did.
thanks! i didn't even know we had the cake day thing here.
when i was older, i was stomping around in a field of tall grass well over my head on a straight up 80% humidity, 90°F day with zero wind. at one point, i went from feeling miserable to feeling weird and i said, "i'm gonna go sit in the shade for a few minutes and get some water." because by this point i was in my late 30s, where one of my mantras had become "better to sit down than to fall down."
i understand how they can indoctrinate young people to do this kind of shit, because they generally feel like they have something to prove. i know i sure did when i was in my teens and 20s. but that guy looks way older than me. i can't imagine having any fucks left to give. of course, i'm sure i would never be invited to do anything solemn and ceremonial anyway. i'd be up there farting, chuckling to myself, and unwrapping hard candy the whole time.

Why are they still using that shit, at best it's a glorified tourist attraction. Is this some thing where Queen Victoria wiped her ass with it thus blessing it with her royal feces so it must be revered?
