They were able to acquire—the reports are somewhere in the neighborhood of over 3,000 square kilometers of territory. They’ve been able to retake in three days what took Russia three months to be able to gain control of.

Watching the triumphalism in the wake of the counteroffensive has been interesting. No one in the press sees numbers like this and thinks to ask "Gee, doesn't that seem too easy?" I would not be surprised to see a shot of an aircraft carrier with a "Mission Accomplished" banner at this point.

Literally, that's such a massive turnaround that your first thought, even if you believe it's true, should be "huh, how long ago did the Russians abandon that area? How long did it take the Ukrainians to notice that Russia had left?"

Russia conquers some 20k+ square kms.

Ukraine retakes some 3k square kms

Westerners and Ukraine: "My job here is done."

Every pro-Russian/anti-westerner: "But you didn't do anything."

In the Liberal worldview, the just are destined to prevail over the wicked. The world is shaped by ideas, and the Liberals are in power because they have the best ideas.
