I reckon you're onto something there. Maybe some sort of pointy stick? Wood's pretty fragile though so maybe either make it out of metal or perhaps really strong wood with bits of metal attached to it?
Just had a thought actually. If we're using metal we could hammer it a bit and add a really sharp point or edge to it.
