After my first plant turned out to be wretchedly male it was such a psychic blow that I haven't had the energy to try again until recently. And now I can't even get the seeds to sprout :deeper-sadness:
first seed germinated, planted, nothing emerged. Germinated another seed 2-3 days ago and still nothing is sprouting. I really wanted to have weed by now because my brain really does not like sobriety :(
my plan is to grow another plant out, take a cutting, try to get the cutting to flower and then take more cuttings if it ends up female
just gotta get a seed to sprout first :yea:
Cup of water has always been reliable for me, also seconding the feminized seeds, it makes life a lot easier.
I've been putting them in a small tupperware inside a moistened paper towel and leaving it in the AC/furnace closet because it stays pretty warm in there. They germinate alright, the only seed I've had so far that failed to germinate wasn't mature I think (it was light green and had no striations on it). They're just not sprouting. This seed might just need a bit more time, idk, but the seed before it I waited a week and had nothing. I planted it at a much shallower depth this time ( like [ ] deep). I think the soil is too dense or something, idk, it's a lot mulchier than the miracle grow stuff I used last time. Also for some reason it is incredibly hydrophobic (but I made sure to get it all wet before planting this time).
The first two seeds I germinated a few months ago both sprouted no problem, but my cat decided to eat one and then the other was an accursed male :why-angel:
Normally I'm the kind of guy that will go for the cheaper method, but for growing weed you really really need a good growing medium, potting soils like miracle gro that are loaded with fertilizers and will kill your seedlings with nutrient burn 100% of the time. I use coco coir and fox farm ferts, and I essentially follow the dosing calender with the ferts as if it was a hydroponic medium. Works like a charm.
Are you pH buffering when you water?

I think people are too quick to judge miracle grow stuff because it worked fine for my first plant, both as soil and as fertilizer. I get that it might make it easier to burn plants but the soil worked fine and when I started adding fertilizer I just made sure to only add a very small amount (in addition to transplanting into a pot with ground egg shells and a little bit of epsom salt for added calcium and magnesium) and it seemed to do fine. Unfortunately my plant, though vigorous and healthy, was male and useless :bawllin-sad:
And these last two attempts weren't even with miracle grow stuff but just generic "potting soil" that definitely seems like it's lower in quality, like, it's got more sticks/mulch and less "dirt"
but the good news is WE GOT A SPROUT

nah, someone suggested I add a little bit of lemon juice to lower the PH but that hasn't seemed to be necessary so far, water straight out of the tap was fine for my last plant. I didn't have any noticeable issues until flowering when some of the lower leaves started to yellow and drop off, but people said that's also normal anyway
I've had decent success germinating seeds by putting them in a damp paper towel inside a plastic bag and leaving them somewhere relatively warm, like the top of the fridge.
That's basically what I've been doing except in a small tupperware
Growing from seeds sounds hard! Back when I helped my dad with his farm we would always take cuttings, put them in rock wool in some rooting solution, then put them into grow bags once they outgrew the rock wool. Probably harder to do that if you don't already have a plant to clone though...
Anyways I'm a big dummy who's just really good at following instructions so I don't have any real insights here, but good luck! It's really shitty that some states still ban weed.
the first go around was only hard because my cat ate one of the seedlings in the like 1 hour I had it in front of a window before I got my lights, and then the survivor ended up being male but I couldn't tell for like, 2 months when I switched the lights to a flowering schedule
I tried to make an extract of whatever >1% cannabinoids might have been in it but all I got was some weed flavored everclear :deeper-sadness:

I read on the internet that the same farm bill loophole that allowed for delta 8 products has made it legal for delta 9 products to be sold as long as they're less than 0.3% THC by dry weight, so now there's like 10mg gummies and shit, but I haven't been able to confirm that
if we're at this point though like just legalize it dang it
