  • It gets better, stay strong. I made a very difficult decision to end a ten year relationship about five years ago. It sucked for a long time and the first six months were easily the hardest I've ever had to endure, but it was the right thing to do when the alternative would be two people feeling unfulfilled and alone in their marriage for their remaining 60+ years of life. I initially had similar feelings that I had "wasted" those years, but when I found someone new, those thoughts started fading away.

Today I am in a much better place place than I was pre-divorce, with a partner whose personality complements mine very closely. I still occasionally have bouts of grief when thinking back on my "past life", but over time it has become less frequent and intrusive.
