I have often remarked on the fact that an “anti-Marxist” argument is only the apparent rejuvenation of a pre-Marxist idea. A so-called “going beyond” Marxism will be at worst only a return to pre-Marxism; at best, only the rediscovery of a thought already contained in the philosophy which one believes he has gone beyond.

It's even worse these days because nobody reads philosophy or social sciences anymore, not even the old stuff, so people keep recycling ideas thinking that they are 'new'. This is especially common in tech-bro, libertarian spheres. I've had like six conversations where people describe reciprocal economies as if they are some new phenomena, and not the primary historical method of trade.

Jean-Paul Sartre was a pedophile rapist creep. He sexually abused girls that his lover, the feminist Simone de Beauvoir, taught at her high school.

"They lived out their freedom in an open relationship, which included seducing, sharing and discarding young women, among them de Beauvoir's high-school students. This ill accords with her liberating feminist philosophy and fiction, and her acerbic analysis of how women are looked at and objectified, restricted to being the "other". Today we call the behavior of the revered existentialist couple "grooming".
