A crore (abbreviated cr) denotes ten million (10,000,000 or 107 in scientific notation) and is equal to 100 lakh in the Indian numbering system. It is written as 1,00,00,000 with the local 2,2,3 style of digit group separators. A lakh (abbreviated L; sometimes written lac) is a unit in the Indian numbering system equal to one hundred thousand. In the Indian 2,2,3 convention of digit grouping, it is written as 1,00,000. They are widely used both in official and other contexts in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. It is often used in Bangladeshi, Indian, Pakistani, and Sri Lankan English.

Large amounts of money in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Pakistan are often written in terms of Koti or crore. For example (one hundred and fifty million) is written as "fifteen crore rupees", "15 crore" or "₹15 crore". In the abbreviated form, usage such as "₹15 cr" (for "15 crore rupees") is common. Trillions (in the short scale) of money are often written or spoken of in terms of lakh crore. For example, one trillion rupees is equivalent to one lakh crore rupees.

The word crore derives from the Prakrit word kroḍi, which in turn comes from the Sanskrit koṭi (कोटि), denoting ten million in the Indian numbering system.

The modern word lakh derives from Sanskrit: लक्ष, romanized: lakṣa, originally denoting "mark, target, stake in gambling", but also used as the numeral for "100,000" in Gupta-era Classical Sanskrit. Another possible etymology comes from the root word for the lac bug, used to produce shellac. Presumably from the large number of insects that swarm on host trees, up to 150 per square inch (23/cm2).

Bonus South Asian fun fact : Lal Salam (transl. "Red salute") is a salute, greeting, or code word used by communists in South Asia. The word lal means "red" in Hindustani; salam means "greeting" and is an Arabic word for a greeting.

I pat the young one first. She wagged her tail as I approached, but otherwise didn't move her body just followed me with her eyes - this is her custom. I rubbed her belly and she raised her head toward me and purred. I topped it off with a scritch on the nose between her eyes, and she squinted when I did that.

The old boy was very tired lol. I gently scritched his jowl and he slowly moved his chin in to sort of cuddle my hand as I did so.

The youngest we're dog-sitting right now, so she's still a little skittish. I would say she "let" me pet her but I wouldn't say she showed any signs that she particularly wanted me to lol
