  • Yeah ok. I'd say in general most people don't watch that many movies made more than 20 years before they were born. I watch a lot of movies, old and new foreign and domestic but realistically I don't watch more than maybe one a year made in that time frame as applied to me.

IDK right or wrong I think it's pretty important to contextualize these numbers rather than going the "kids these days" route.

Also Netflix sucks. If you have a library card you probably have free access to stream films on Kanopy which has a ton of great older films.

  • I will say I think it's utopian to think socialism is where everybody gets to choose whatever job they want most. Socialism will still need servers, roofers, landscapers, miners and bus drivers, honestly a lot more of those than visual artists or whatever. It will more than likely be true that you'll just be doing a job like you do now, but for the collective instead of for :porky-happy:

There is not going to be any revolution without a rupture - in that sense decline is good. Decline also means a decline in the ability of the US to wield imperial power. This would be unfathomably good.

Obviously decline will at least temporarily decrease standards of living in the US, but a lot of the standards of living in the US are not sustainable anyways and these standards of living are unlikely to drop past the standards of the global south whose exploitation subsidizes these standards in the core. At any rate, this is a good reason to be actively organizing mutual aid programs right now, to build infrastructure to help workers support each other.
