Years ago Modest Mouse was my daily listen, but as I've gotten older I find that it makes me so emotional that it's hard to listen to in casual situations. Like, if I was hanging out with someone and they made so much as a peep during "Trailer Trash" -- it's over.

Or like this shit from "Ohio":

Pulled the scabs off of regrets We haven't learned to read our conscience yet Truly sorry, I see clearly Hardy hoping, I spend it all on game machines Calmly crashing, I pace and I figure out again One hand clapping, awake but napping

Rows of lights to illuminate lines Why don't they turn them off and let us see night Drove crazed grooming my lies You can't look in on one way eyes

like how the fuck am I supposed to be after that

or better yet, why have I ever gotten to the point where I exist without listening to that shit and think it's ok

it's fair to say that Isaac Brock taught me how to play guitar

lol i took the other path with the brock based instrument learning and went banjo because i got really into ugly casanova. turns out he plays banjo all wrong so it's weird playing with others. still he got me to spend 5 years learning the damn thing just to make spooky sounds

but same, MM was a huge part of me for a long time.

ever check out the halo benders? I'm going through some of the stuff coming out of the 90s NW rock scene and this is an early project of doug martsch of built to spill alongside calvin johnson, who was a producer on both MM and built to spills early stuff

No I have not but I am (perhaps unsurprisingly) also a big Built to Spill fan, I will happily devour this

        Thanks comrade :meow-hug:
