Be careful not to dox yourself. Talking about and owning guns obviously isn’t illegal, but that doesn’t mean some chud won’t try to use information against you.
We highly recommend using a throwaway when asking for or giving advice that may include identifying information. Using Tor doesn’t hurt.
What are people's opinions on hearing protection? I usually go with in-ear foam, but wouldn't mind some electronic ones for talking while shooting. Maybe home defense use too if they're good enough. Had a problem in the past with over-ear protection interfering with cheek weld, though.
Common recommendations seem to be Howard Leights or Walker Razors at the low end. Also saw some mention of Axil. Could maybe go up to something like Peltors if they're under $200.
Electronic earpro is an excellent and worthwhile upgrade. Makes it a lot easier to hear range commands, etc. In addition its just objectively better than in ear foam for other reasons.
Howard leight is probably the minimum viable. Sordins, basic or pro, are probably the logical next upgrade thats sub 200. Comtacs and Ops Core amps are high end.
a nice pair of gel pads for them goes a long way too in increasing comfort with eyepro, etc.
remember to double up on earpro if shooting indoors or beside someone with an obnoxious muzzle brake.
Second this. I have a set of walker razors and they are awesome. What I think is cool is that they kind of end up being bionic ears when you aren't shooting. They will boost all the sounds around you so you can have whisper quiet conversations with them on.
