I recently found out that the local 150 acre mansion only pays taxes on 1 acre of land because they got the rest classified as forest or some other absolute bullshit. BONUS: It's some sort of green washing thing

around me they just rent some fixed percentage of land for cow grazing or get some snails and bam farm writeoff. i wouldn't be surprised if some get huge tax refunds/credits

Work in transportation/roads and can confirm suburban cities need to spend so much on maintaining roads there isn't enough for much else. Especially cuz suburbs tend to be conservative and consistently refuse to pay more in local taxes, so the only things we can afford are cops and road repair

What if...... people were taxed proportionate to this?

The typical suburban American is too fucking stupid to even realize that all of the infrastructure they use every day actually has a cost and that they should share in this cost in proportion to their use of it.

I don't mean to come off as too combative and I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here, but sometimes I feel like I'm taking crazy pills because a lot of the problems with suburban development seem obvious if you seriously think about it for more than 10 minutes.

Hey, I don't ride the bus or kids, why should I have to pay for it?!?!

e: I forgot a "have" in that sentence, but it's probably more a more accurate unhinged libertarian take, so I'm going to let it stay.

They are called townhomes if they're fancy or rowhouses if they're not. My city has a few tiny patches of them here and there and they're mostly super cool. No whole neighborhoods though.

Shrink government spending with this one neat trick.

    Libertarians hate it.

I'll give suburbs this: they make great CHUD containment zones. It's a shame that suburbs are the "affordable" housing option these days because otherwise the CHUDs can jerk themselves off in their boring suburb all they want and I can be left alone in a nice walkable city with my fellow weirdos.

They're also chud production facilities though. The isolation and segregation of suburbs create as many or more chuds as they contain.
