Edit: More recent update on his situation after a fund raiser raised enough for him to avoid homelessness:

"The real issue isn’t whether or not someone like me should be able to access MAID. It’s whether or not we, as a society, wish to continue making people’s lives miserable and hopeless enough that suicide – assisted or otherwise – becomes a viable option. Or whether we are willing to choose to take steps that would make these people’s lives bearable enough that they won’t need to."

Edit 2: Medical assistance suicide under Capitalism and under the hands of the government is a horrible idea without any proper safeguards from abuse https://twitter.com/Lefty_Mind/status/1595443123324436481

I've never changed my mind more on a topic than I have with MAID. For years I was one of those "Well yeah, people with incurable pain conditions should have a choice" and if MAID/euthanasia was just that I would still be fine. But I simply do not trust any governmental/healthcare power to not abuse such a thing if it's available. The financial incentives for euthanasia encourage them to constantly expand eligibility for all people who exist at a "cost to society" regardless of whether or not their situation can be improved or if they even want to die.

Canada is engaging in an active genocide on its disabled population and the lack of response to this by other nations should inform you as to how they would implement their own euthanasia policies.

      :yea:

The line about being able to do it for pets but not people is how it should be, not "Oh fido isn't contributing to the household anymore, time to put him down"

I know people that unironically do that. Soon as the dog gets grumpy and old and costs a little more medically they put them down

Really hate how many people have pets who have no business doing so :bear-despair:
