Edit: More recent update on his situation after a fund raiser raised enough for him to avoid homelessness:

"The real issue isn’t whether or not someone like me should be able to access MAID. It’s whether or not we, as a society, wish to continue making people’s lives miserable and hopeless enough that suicide – assisted or otherwise – becomes a viable option. Or whether we are willing to choose to take steps that would make these people’s lives bearable enough that they won’t need to."

Edit 2: Medical assistance suicide under Capitalism and under the hands of the government is a horrible idea without any proper safeguards from abuse https://twitter.com/Lefty_Mind/status/1595443123324436481

The best antidote to a lib or libertarian obsessed with a hard binary of consent is unironically the Adventure Time episode “Furniture and Meat”

Jake and Finn finally go to town to spend all their loot and treasure from adventuring. It starts out innocently enough until Jake realizes he can get people to dance for him for money. It descends from there, Jake making the townsfolk do more and more depraved and uncomfortable and painful things for his entertainment until something snaps and everyone realizes Jake has gone too far and is abusing and exploiting people, taking it so far as to strip of them of subjectivity and make them into his objects. People who have “consensually” agreed to everything the entire time. Oh and he’s casually bribing the authorities the entire time to allow breaking their laws to do all this.

They try to give their money to the poor, but the poor end up trying to steal it from them and they beat them up to keep the gold (even though they were just trying to get rid of it, they couldn’t let the poor take it non-consensually!)

Eventually Jake tries to make the monarch of the kingdom into his chair and sit on her, but she won’t be bought off and gets insulted. She tries to have them executed but BMO dressed as Robin Hood saves them and they escape.

The visceral disgust you start to feel for Jake really shatters the entire thing for me
