The only continent worse at trains than North America
Africa is the worst continent for railways by far and that's because the railways were built by colonizers. If you look at a map of African railways, you'll see that most railways in Africa were built to haul resources out to the sea and then to Europe. Only settler states like South Africa developed a decent rail network.
Footnote
North Africa seems to have a pretty good network too. I don't know if there were euro settler attempts there, but I'm glad they have a decent rail network.
Except for Libya of course. Hmm, I wonder what happened there? :hillary:
The one continent i can safely say would be better off without trains (probably?)
Please don't. Antarctic tourism is incredibly bad for the environment.
for some reason i've always been fascinated with somebody developing an antarctic colonization sim game. at the very least it would be the least genocidal colonization possible. but mostly just for the challenge of the terrain, habitability, and building infrastructure in a super hostile land where it's almost like colonizing another planet.
plausible scenario would be like as a climate crisis refuge.
i could never finish that game. it felt like it had low replayability and i became obsessed with trying to get everything right on my first run and basically paralyzed myself and stopped playing. plus holy shit was it depressing.
but imagining a fusion of frostpunk and a colonization game now makes me want a alt history/ dieselpunk Antarctica city colonization game. maybe with some lovecraftian elements.
Several Antarctic Islands had railroads for mining/whaling. And possibly, Dumont d'Urville station still has a very small one used to shuttle supplies. (Perfidious France, hoarding the trains!)
there are also these boys
of course its real, its the gateway to the secret world beneath ours where the ancient astronauts live
Who's up for a game of crayon rails?
https://boardgamegeek.com/image/51385/russian-rails
It's a board game series where you draw railroad routes on a map using crayon since they can erase off the laminated boards. They're distinctly white so this map in reference to railroads reminded me of them.
Ok, but where's the fun? Like, transi are cool but what else do you do with it?
