Think about how cool it is libraries exist:

  1. One of the few public places where you aren't expected or pressured into buying anything

  2. Usually calm & cozy as fuck

  3. Have changed with the times -- not just books but computers, borrowing movies, toys, e-books, magazines, some even video games, artwork, and plants.

  4. Everyone loves them. Even chuds, boomers, and suburbanites generally love the library. Good for kids, preteens, teens, adults, and seniors.

  5. Literally free

Imagine if libraries didn't already exist today, how angry Fox News pundits would be if someone tried to make one. Or think about how convoluted one of our feckless billionaires would try to invent one so of course it somehow can be profit-generating.

I just love libraries.

I love libraries. Basically spent half my time in my teen years at my local library because it was a nice escape from my family.

It was by a river and I used to go smoke weed by the water and spend hours reading random books. Fuck yeah libraries.

Some of my best childhood memories are sitting on the bean bag chairs in the kids section at the local library reading Tintin and Asterix books.

Also sort of related, but I love the idea of libraries having a community workshop component with 3D printers, tools, etc. and I wish that sort of thing was more common.

Today my coworker was talking about renting games from the library before deciding if he wants to buy them, and I had no idea that was a thing!

I used to go all the time and really fell off of it the last uh, decade or so. Since we read a few bed time books to our kid each night we go once every week or two now to get a bunch of new bed time books.

It's honestly great. Just a surprisingly good institution for a sick society like :amerikkka: to have.

Hanging out at the library because my family was poor and couldn't afford any other entertainment when I was a kid is one of my favorite childhood memories. It sparked off a love for books that unfortunately has recently turned into accumulating unread books because I'm an adult with no spare time.

    Still, libraries rock.

My earliest memory of my childhood library was literally :ferret-poggers:

They had a pog-making machine and I thought it was the equivalent of a money printer.

One of the most bazinga comments I've ever seen online was from some PMC/boomer chud that said that libraries should be eliminated because Amazon can supposedly do everything libraries can do. When he got a fraction of the backlash he deserved, he said, as a surefire argument winner, "YOU WOULD PAY LOWER TAXES!" (by like a fucking fraction of a cent if that) :grillman:

Love libraries and their role in society, but my current one has such a long wait on everything I'm interested in reading, so I've given up on ever checking it
