He’s playing for the “I’m a rational centrist” audience which is functionally the moderate wing of the MAGA movement.
I truly believe this is a play by him and Peter Thiel to co-opt the GOP in the aftermath of Trumpism and forge a new political coalition that unites enlightened centrists with the remnants of MAGA. They won’t jettison MAGA but instead they’ll emphasize the anti-establishment nature of MAGA but direct that energy against democratic institutions that limit the power of the actually existing oligarchic corporate government.
He’s going to carry a lot of these card carrying progressive liberals who consider themselves “rational centrists”, not just Joe Rogan types but also suburban white democrats who say “black lives matter but I oppose those urban riots” and “trans rights are important but let’s allow kids to be kids”.
A potential new GOP coalition that reunites suburban whites who identify as progressive without endorsing any actual challenge to the status quo with the MAGA radicals. The grand white coalition.
Bill Maher liberals. I know one personally who would consider himself very anti-racist and pro-LGB minus the T, and pro welfare state (but not pro-union). He would absolutely get sucked into this.

You had Socialist Alternative come out against mandates and workplaces should be democratically voted on with reguards to policy. But because it doesn't align with "the left sat back and did nothing so vote Republican " it doesn't exist.
There absolutely exists a well financed and a sustained camapign to try to siphon leftists to the :frothingfash: vote Republican pipeline playing along the culture wars lines. Democrats are facilitating it by doing nothing and by re-affirming their ratchet clank to the right via Clinton telling them not to defend transgenders, not countering the extreme disinformation about transgenders, and moving their primary to Clyburn country. After they funded and boosted far right candidates and helped move this country even further off a fascist abyss.
Then you have both parties playing the CHINA CHINA CHINA / RUSSIA RUSIA RUSSIA Red Scare bits and if you aren't on board then you're a bot what time is it in Bejing / Moscow?!
