My godfather - a very normal Irish Catholic guy who liked to fish and play board games and dressed/acted like everyone else - moved to the UK five years ago and become a trans-woman.
My tomboy college friend road motorcycles and spent ten years studying gekkos in the Australian Outback and ended up starting a farm with a couple of her boyfriends, but was otherwise as cis-het a person as you'll ever meet.
I mean, I've heard all kinds of shit. People generally tend to assume that whatever thing they are is the "real" sexual/gender expression and everyone else is just faking it. So you get some first/second wave feminists taking the stance that all straight sex is functionally rape (because who would ever voluntarily fuck a dude?!) and orthodox Christians insisting any violation of taboo is literally demonic possession and trans-folks bucketing virtually every cis-person they meet as either chaser or egg.
"You're an X and you just don't realize it yet" is a very routine sentiment, particularly from people who have just come out of the closet.

Yeah I realize people contain multitudes, I just haven't heard the "all tomboys are lesbians or trans" rhetoric before.

Categorization. Like, everyone is either one or the other.
Maybe. However hard white LGBT people have it, PoC always seem to have it worse.
But, at some level, its worth remembering that this is a thing other people are going through and they're just projecting it.
