Conservatives don't value consistency or anything close to coherence. Whatever they like is entirely arbitrary and decided by the dumbest things you can imagine. So Lincoln is good if they want to make black people vote republican, but Lincoln was bad if you valued a weak federal government (one that didn't interfere in the market or made them not enslave black people)
