Damn that sucks. So what's to stop reactionaries from forming their own caucuses and trying to push the DSA further right, or publishing shit like this while claiming to represent part of the DSA? It's pretty wild that these cringe liberals and the based DSA-IC can be part of the same organization. No discipline?
The democratic processes. Issues are put to a vote and if these caucuses don’t build power then they don’t pass their opinions. For what it’s worth, North Star and any adjacent lib left caucuses are literally irrelevant. They hold no major power and their only accomplishment is creating the garbage posts like the one you see.
Why do we let them form? There had to be an acceptable level of disagreement in a democratic org. Most people use the caucus system and lack of party line to steer the org good ways, and they succeed. The cost of it is a cringe twitter post or two and people (like this site) not understanding the true nature of DSA as a party (not meant as a roast this is just literally true).
Speaking more broadly, Democratic centralism is definitely not the move right now for an org like DSA. I have yet to meet an organizer with anything close to an idea loft (and most crucially a plan of action) that should be followed without question in the org yet. We are still in a time of debate.
For my chapter, this framework has produced a wide variety of useful and important projects already. Happy to talk about what exactly, but I’ll just give you a short and day that we’ve helped salt and unionize 5 starbucks in our city alone, in one project.
