There wouldn't even be a WWI if Europeans hadn't colonized the rest of the world. Because Europeans had colonized the world, the rest of the world had to be involved in an otherwise generic European war. That's the real tragedy of WWI. A bunch of colonized subjects died for the sake of some inbred European royal.
The best thing about WW1 was how many royals it ended up killing. An entire generation of bourgeoisie dilitants doing the full Leroy Jenkins into mustard gas and machine gun fire.
