I think that sauna's and bathhouses are pretty underrated among many Western cultures. It's a nearly universally wonderful and calming environment for all, and is a great gathering place for the introverted and sober who may feel like they lack options.
It can be quietly social with an opportunity to mill about or passively participate in a conversation as you may prefer. Even if you don't want to get in the heat, you could enjoy a pot of tea in the building alongside everyone else. People are unclothed (or nearly unclothed, per their personal preference), which really puts everyone on the "same level" so to speak.

It is so fucking cold. -20f/-28c, plus wind coming off the mountains. This has to be the coldest I've experienced in like five years of living here with tomorrow almost as bad.

I've been deciding to cut back on the quantity of things in my life in favor of quality, so for Christmas I'm just gonna get the smallest model of steam shower, the heating box that they use for steam rooms. Gonna be relaxed as fuck and save water at the same time by just taking steam showers in my bathroom, dudes rock, fuck the landlord.
Grew up in sauna culture. Literally can't live without it now (i am suffering).
I love saunas but I love hamam more. Give me that steamy goodness.
Been too long since I've had a good steam, I'd love to join you all in the municipal sauna :comfy:
