I've got to say that I'm not getting that vibe at all. I feel like they're trying to get me to sympathise with this SS tank commander. They're portraying him like he's honourable and that he has been betrayed by some sort of nebulous evil that has infected the wermarcht. They've been Nazis the whole time!

Lots of poor hanging nazi deserters, but no hanged civilians, the hanging of which captain panzer here would have overseen.
