Total anecdote but I remember my younger siblings getting into Harry Potter for a while - they didn't make it past the third book and never talked about it again once they got bored of it lmao. HP was a social event as much as it was a media property, if you weren't there when it was happening the whole franchise loses a ton of its power.
I remember there being giant midnight launches for the books since at least the 5th one. And honestly, sucks that Rowling's politics are shit and a lot of people haven't read a book since, but I imagine it got a lot of people excited about reading so not all bad.
