stop killing animals you sick freaks.
I’ve thought about this a lot and it’s kinda like acting morally superior to people who smoke cigarettes because you don’t. Obviously there are some key differences but the societal pressure to not be vegan is enormous and not everyone knows how to cook or how to make time for cooking/food prep efficiently. When you really want to help someone kick an addiction acting morally superior is the opposite of helpful, even if you might be in that moment. Never forget;
“(People) make their own history, but they do not make it as they please; they do not make it under self-selected circumstances, but under circumstances existing already, given and transmitted from the past.”
That applies to everything, including many of these choices we make on what to consume. The goal should always be to encourage solidarity, not to relish in moral superiority.
Cool, same, you should know not to throw around homophobic terms like a 14 year old on xbox.
Ok but cigs and alcohol and drugs are actual addictions that cause withdrawal and shit.
You cannot compare that to eating meat or dairy. You might be used to it or it’s become a habit. But it’s not an addiction. You do it because it’s easy and it’s widely available. And you don’t want to spend the time and effort (minimal though it might be) needed to actually follow your own morals.
Can you go through withdrawal from gambling? Is that not a real addiction? Have you heard of casomorphine comrade? I think you need to examine the human condition a little more critically before casting such harsh moral aspersions.
I agree that carnism is morally reprehensible, but that does not make the individuals who participate in it necessarily morally reprehensible. It’s always more complicated than that.
The owners of the factory farms? Absolutely yes. The immigrant workers in the processing plant? Absolutely not. The 20 something who has barely had to cook for themselves in their life? It depends on their willingness to criticize their own habits and adopt new ones. a process that inherently takes time.
Everyone’s at a different stage in this process. It’s extremely frustrating because the cost to animals and the biosphere is enormous. The animal suffering is terrible to behold and very sad. But just because the truth is frustrating does not make it any less true.
Cmon lmao, eating meat and dairy is not an addiction! What’s the physiological or psychological withdrawal??? You have to pay $2 extra for oat milk or a beyond burger? Just eat beans and rice.
By comparing it to stuff like gambling, you are literally minimising the struggle actual addicts go through.
Yeah, I'm sorry but giving up meat is not comparable in the slightest bit to drug addiction. I used to be a quite literal junkie and smoked cigs when I was younger, the mental hell of detoxing is literal torture. Giving up meat won't cause you to lay awake for days on end shaking with cold sweats hoping to die, and I've never met anyone who blew their rent money on meat, whereas I have blown my rent money on drugs many times in the past.
On the other hand... you're never gonna convince anyone to be vegan by acting "morally superior" and calling others "sick freaks". Lol what a bad take
I’m not the one comparing the two. Direct this at the other person.
For the second para, I didn’t make this post for fucking carnists. It wasn’t meant to convince anyone Jesus Christ lmao.
Hey, I'm just here for the drama tbh. I was agreeing with your point lol, not everyone is here to attack you my friend :)
Yeah that’s why you eat rice and beans. With some veggies.
You don’t have to be bougie to be vegan.
:im-vegan:, but I don't think this is the correct way to approach this issue. We're materialists, we don't judge people as morally superior.
As someone else pointed out, I may have made a mistake.
I should’ve said veganism is the only moral choice, not the morally superior one.
We’re materialists, we don’t judge people as morally superior
lame
I've grown pretty fond of telling people when they ask why I don't eat animals that I just enjoy the moral superiority. "Yeah you volunteer at a soup kitchen? I don't eat bacon."
Both are good things to do lmao but don’t act like the average meat enjoyer is spending their non-working hours at the soup kitchen or wherever.
Bait is not vegan. So yeah, I agree.
Carnists should stay away from this post. It is not for them.
I wouldn't say :im-vegan: is morally superior. That implies carnism is at all moral enough as to be inferior.
I'm just moral :meow-coffee:
Edit: found out about the setting to change from someone else.
Best of luck in here everyone
if you’re not vegan then why are you in this community? Go away.
No. This is in c/vegan.
I specifically made this post in here because I don’t want all the losers who constantly follow me around (or those who kill baby chickens) to see this.
