It's Chicago house and Detroit techno, otherwise this is spot on. Also, a lot of the hate that disco on through house and techno received was not only because it was black and brown music, but also associated with the queer community.

tbf it was the MCs that called it intelligent dnb back in the day, but the label took off amongst (white, middle class) students after a while

Yeah, especially since a lot of the stuff that gets called IDM has other, better descriptors (e.g. breakcore)
