      I mean, listen to Imagine. The most idealist message possible, one day we could all just wake up and end oppression and exploitation if we all just thought about it.

      They leaned left, but they were definitely part of the new anti-communist left that included hippies and western academics and thrived on idealism

      that being said the song is still about the hippy idea (which the beatles at least somewhat subscribed to) that real revolution was bad and revolution should come from within your own mind instead
