except Ringo Starr who was a management plant and opportunist put in to sabotage The Beatles from the inside. he supported Brexit and was prominently featured in the Pandora Papers.
fun fact: Back in the USSR only got recorded because at the time they managed to kick Ringo out for a short period of time
I mean, listen to Imagine. The most idealist message possible, one day we could all just wake up and end oppression and exploitation if we all just thought about it.
They leaned left, but they were definitely part of the new anti-communist left that included hippies and western academics and thrived on idealism
as i recall paul actually apologized for the mao line later and said he regretted it
that being said the song is still about the hippy idea (which the beatles at least somewhat subscribed to) that real revolution was bad and revolution should come from within your own mind instead
I might be misunderstanding, but Back in the USSR just seems like its about wanting to fuck eastern europeans and not about how cool the USSR is
[insert another hexbear post about women's orgasm rates in East Germany vs West Germany]
back in the USSR was a response to the beach boys california girls
the motivation behind the song is that the beatles thought women were hot everywhere and california girls were overrated
I haven't heard that song since being old enough to understand lyrics, should I actually try to read and understand the lyrics for that song?
They're not offensive lyrics or anything. They're just some real twerked up white boys.
And MK Ultra was a program to fuck people up on enough acid that the Beatles could get popular.
Cant wait for the Charles Manson sympathy movement like there is for :a-guy:
the beatles music sounds lovely to my ears. ringo is a great drummer. they were not all very good or remotely radical people in their politics. maybe george harrison is the exception. gotta be honest and say I could not care less. idc who likes or does not like 2 barely alive and 2 very not alive brits. but please dont think you are brave for hating the beatles. its very silly innit
That's cool, listen to whatever you like. I listen to lots of country.
That said, the beatles absolutely played a role in allowing the white "left" to retreat into academia and art instead of engaging with the black power movement that was actually doing shit and getting murdered for it.
Edit: Sorry - Hexbear put your reply in my alerts. I thought you were responding to me. :mystery-emote:
you're good! I do think that's a solid point and I certainly think it's worthwhile to investigate the relationship between art and politics. I just remember back in high school people saying they hated the beatles like they were saying workers of the world unite or something. it just gets exhausting to hear the same conversation played out a million times.
The Beatles were good because they jerked off together and that's my ideal male friendship goals
Can we please get a bot that auto-responds when someone has a post with The Beatles or Beatles with the copypasta.
That is one of my all-time favourites. Fresh copypasta just isn't the same as the classics.
The only reason they got popular was that they were playing popular Black music while being White, also let's talk about how Get Back was originally super racist.

While this was a big part of it, they also showed up at the exact right time and place to seize on the American cultural zeitgeist with a lot of concerted help from capital. The Beatles as a cultural monolith was an almost entirely fabricated phenomenon by the studios.
also let’s talk about how Get Back was originally super racist.
From what I understand it was always a protest song about the surge in anti-immigrant rhetoric among the English populace at the time. It was a response to stuff like Enoch Powell's Rivers of Blood speech.
Also Billy Preston was a big part of that song ever being finished, it's the only time a non-Beatle was voluntarily credited for a Beatles song.
The Beatles suck, but not for that reason.
The Beatles as a cultural monolith was an almost entirely fabricated phenomenon by the studios.
Are you really suggesting that people weren't screaming and crying and pissing themselves in droves trying to see the Beatles?
I mean they may have been heavily promoted over other contemporary groups, and you may not like them. But to suggest that the Beatles were anything less than an earth-shattering cultural phenomenon is just revisionism. Every rock musician you have ever heard lists the Beatles as a major influence and their style can be heard everywhere in music, to this day
Saying it was fabricated is not the same as saying it wasn't real.
I mean they may have been heavily promoted over other contemporary groups,
This is what I'm referring to with the fabricated point, to counter the earlier comment that it was all just whiteys playing black music that made them a massive success.

I never implied anything to the contrary of this. For what it's worth I like The Beatles, Hey, Jude was the first song I learned on the guitar. I just don't think they're good like in the moral sense.
“Is Ringo the best drummer in the world? Mate, he’s not even the best drummer in the band!”
They Made great agitprop classics like "Revolution".
You mean the song that literally puts Mao is the same category as racists and warhawks? Beatles are shit libs at best.
But if you want money for people with minds that hate, All I can tell you is, brother, you have to wait
But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao. You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Beatles delenda est est.
