the part about the shitty boss gambling away all his money and having to move into a "sectioned off" part of the breakroom is exquisite. shitty bosses imploding is a genre i could read a lot of.

    CW: violence, death

when i was still a kid (early 20s) i worked for this a-hole. my friend got me the job there. very typical small business tyrant. we were underpaid, he pocketed +80% of what we earned. i just thought that's how shit worked. i lasted like maybe 4 months before i found something else that had like healthcare and better pay, but the guy was a massive asshole the whole time. like the kind of guy who talks about how hot some celebrity is in front of his nice wife despite her obvious unease. or like, has some poster of a supercar on his wall. just an absolute loser who has completely internalized the logic of mass culture.

fast forward nearly 20 years later, i barely even remember this asshole exists, but my friend tells me to google him as he fills in the background. this guy apparently cheated on his wife a bunch until she divorced him, bought a very expensive sports car, and then got really into driving around drunk and coked out of his mind until he hit another car doing 90+ and killed a little kid in a residential area with a 35 mph speed limit.

what's real fucked up, is despite how absolutely shit awful that all is, absolutely nothing surprised me about it. the guy was such a scumbag asshole with that kind of sociopath "i am above you all" vibe radiating off him, like he was just one of those people that moves through the world like a careless wrecking ball and in america, his mentality was constantly rewarded for it right up until it violently ended a child's life.
