That's a wild story, back when I was super into UFOs I was obsessed with this case. I think it's the only close encounter wherein someone has shot at aliens.
There's a few cases where people have taken shots at aliens and their craft
My personal favorite are the reports from Stardust Ranch (I don't feel like actually googling it, but I'm fairly certain it's that) where the guy who owns it claims to have killed an alien with his sword in addition to hitting one with his AR-15

Yeah, and not to be a jerk or anything, but ever since I read an essay about not co-opting Native beliefs to explain cryptids and such, I try not to fall into that little trap of calling it that
I try to call it Sherman Ranch, since that's it's actual name
Same with calling Bigfoot, Bigfoot and not Sasquatch
