I don't think I've mentioned this anywhere else, but it wouldn't shock me at all if the "octagonal" one was related to a specific Norwegian logistics & """defense""" company or one doing something very similar. I could be entirely wrong but I saw things just like it during an intership years ago. Just a very low-tech piece of hardware for talking to satellites on the opposite side of the planet, from ground-based arrays.
It's entirely plausible to me that those are no longer used, one just happened to have drifted over Lake Huron or wherever that one was, and got caught up in the USAF sparring windmills.
