I've been following their stuff since they started doing Jimquisition, I read all the reviews they did, and I still regularly relisten to old Podtoid and other podcasts they've been on. It's interesting how the gender stuff has kind of always been there, like even years and years ago you could see them trying to break out of their egg with little "jokes" or things cis people likely wouldn't pick up on. I only stopped listening to their main podcast because the other hosts keep bringing up Tencent as an excuse to whine about China. But having to talk about the gaming industry and necessarily rub shoulders with Gamers sounds like hell, it's just an extreme microcosm of capitalism at large. Everything sucks and you're the dumbass for caring. But on the other hand the spiteful poor person in me thinks I'd love to complain about only having nearly a million subs and making 10k a month.

I thought they were annoying and never liked them, including before their transition when I actually formed this opinion

Same, they tried to be your typical contrarian internet asshole, the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 7/10 review was the peak of that, and I say that as someone that doesn't even like most Nintendo games.

I actually find their more recent videos and reviews much better than the past ones. In fact I'm probably the opposite of the phenomenon they're talking about, I subscribed to their channel after they came out haha.

Some people didn't like the weapon breaking mechanics and gave a subjective opinion, which is what reviewers do when they rate games. :I-was-saying:

Again, that was a subjective opinion that Sterling received months of doxxing, harassment, and threats for.

I personally also felt the game was, for me as a player playing it, a 7/10 or so compared to other Zelda games I liked more because I enjoyed their mechanics and gameplay more.

Call it "contrarian" if you must but I'd rather Sterling give their subjective opinion rather than have to bow to some dishonest pretense of "objectivity" just because a large crowd of consumers liked a product more than the reviewer.

I don’t believe in genuine neutrality but I believe in intellectual integrity

Saying that a 7/10 review lacks "intellectual integrity" feels dangerously close to a :freeze-gamer: take for me.

I can recognize that something is a genuinely great racing sim

And I can argue over competing games (with arguably less toxic fandoms) having a valid claim to being as good, or better, at what Breath of the Wild did.

                the realm of solipsism.

                :what-the-hell:

At this point, I'd rather not escalate this so I'll just make this my last reply in this particular reply chain.

There are plenty of complaints to be had of BOTW imo. 7/10 is a very reasonable score. Lack of enemy variety, weapon durability, frame rates, the beasts being very boring, the bosses being pretty boring, and the fairly repetitive shrines can easily wear on people.
