I definitely feel for the people who were the targets of drafting, as resisting it had negative consequences they shouldn't have had to deal with, but people could and did resist it. There were other options than going to Vietnam and fighting for the US. Lots of people fled the country, lots of people were jailed rather than be drafted. Among those who did join the military, many refused to engage in combat, many deserted, and some fragged their officers.
