It's definitely real, veg is literally rationed by the supermarkets here now. Limited number of items per customer. Shelves for certain veg have been empty every time I've been in.
It's not all veg though, just 4 or 5 specific ones.
Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, salad bags, broccoli, cauliflower and also raspberries are currently limited to 3 items per customer maximum in basically every supermarket but you'll be lucky if they even have any at all.
Governments are claiming it's because of extreme weather in Africa and Spain. There has been a lot of claims that Brexit is to blame but I don't really know for sure how much of that is political vs correct.
