As a personal anecdote, I spoke with a boomer comrade recently and he agreed with my assessment that the political situation is very similar to how it was in the early 80s... but with a huge manpower difference. Back in 1982/3 you had 10 rented busses full of people drive to Bonn to participate in an Anti-NATO protest in Bonn with 1.5M other protesters. Now it's a very good result if 100 people show up.
