To be fair, I think Land's predilection was more for amphetamines and related substances rather than psychedelics.

Or Ernst Jünger. Psychedelic means "mind-manifesting", not mind-altering. They bring out what's inside a person, and even that is a ton of work post-trip if you want to get anything more than vibes and memories of funny colors out of it.
