I like the juxtaposition of the inkling "i dont see color/race" living in hypercapitalistic vain society where the only thing that matters is how stylin' you are, oblivious to the sins of their ancestors in almost wiping out the octolings. Captn Cuttlefish the war vet even told that Marina is "articulate" for an octoling. Then there's a few deep state agent like Agent 3, 4, running counter insurgency operations against octolings beneath the surface while the rest of inkopolis party away
Meanwhile, the octarians literally live underground, in the sewers of inkopolis. The octolings are generally split between plotting an insurrection/repatriation war from years of discrimination, oppression and exclusion vs. just letting go of the hate and integrate to Inkopolis as citizen

The games are very fun but the community sucks ass. I played 1 religiously and 2 a lot before you had to pay to play online on the switch but had to stop because almost every match people would just fuck around and not actually play the game. Literally just standing in the middle of the map for 5 minutes doing nothing. I'm not a tryhard "no fun!" type competitive player in games at all but like c'mon. People got REALLY mad when they got called out for this too.
