I am super hype. A giant part of my adolescent nostalgia is related to these games and now there is online multiplier so I am absolutely hype about it

It is a grid based action RPG. A weird one at that. It's most direct game design relatives are phantom dust, quest 64, and pokemon.

The game play loop is doing battles to get cards, that are your attacks for battles. The action RPG battle area is really restricted so you have interesting tactical choices with the cards and also satisfying mechanical play. If it helps you identify the vibes the competitive multi-player was popular with the fighting game community for a short time. I can see why it had limited mass appeal but it is a fascinating case if how much untaped game design space there is out there.

I'm gonna play it later today. I'm so excited. My favorite was 3 Blue.

3 probably is the high point in the series. Which one was blue. Was that the ninja or the heavy weapons one?

I used to to have a poision antidamage C deck set up I really liked if I recall corecctly.

It's the one with the virus pets and you did get Shadow Style in Blue where you could trigger an anti damage counter

Yeah, I think I always used guts style cause busting always felt so good. Just rapid fire ten plus damage shots was brutal

I played the absolute shit out of this game when i was younger. I loved all the character designs and stuff. I remember getting so so so stuck on the electricity map... so annoying.

Yeah, I feel like a couple of the dungeons were just them trying their best and it not working. Which given how much h of this series was a rush job it is surprising more didn't come out underdeveloped
