absolutely my experience as well. proudly weird autistic kid here, the "cool kids" and "jocks" to whatever extent they existed were generally the ones who were nicest to me. they were the ones who might even be like "oh, you're into [thing i have no interest in]? thats pretty cool, tell me about it"
