How do you know they’re pretending. You don’t know anything about these people. They’re strangers and Tu don’t know what’s inside their minds

trouble is that regular diagnosis, for more and more people, simply doesn't exist. like, even outside of :amerikkka: 's healthcare nightmare. Got a friend who's on a 2 year waitlist to talk with someone about maybe having autism here in :ukkk: , and I personally have to pay out of pocket for gender care that's honestly barely any better than self medding anyways. Also, I dunno, I know people who were part of self diag Tumblr and largely they were fuckin right (just also, at the time, teenagers in awful homes with nobody else to talk to about their brain stuff. teenagers tend to be cringe, as is their right)

had a shower & realised I forgot half the point of this post - not being able to access healthcare doesn't just mean that diagnosis has to be done by yourself, it also means that there's no professionals around to tell you that there's nothing majorly wrong with you. never had health anxiety with brain stuff but if it wasn't for free & accessible diagnostics I'd probably be constantly worried about having angina & kidney disease, two conditions that I do not have

Maybe it’s function of nt exploring their corrective behaviors? I mean my thinking is brain is like 100 dimensional bell distribution of different shit, so probably every person is outlier in some of those dimensions. Now on exposure to more nd comrades they start to self-diagnose those outlying things :shrug-outta-hecks:

I understand your frustration with tiktok people but I'd rather people "pretend" they have mental illness and make others aware that we exist than fash just declaring everyone a bit weird dead weight and acting accordingly.

If it wasn't for "cringe tumblr self diagnosis" i wouldn't know that i am not spending most of my free time walking around in circles in my room listening to music (cause thats literally the only thing i have energy for) because "i am just like that" so this post is going a bit too far imo.

If I understand you correctly, one major problem you have is with the availability of ADHD meds, and to be honest I can't really see how self-diagnosis - which obviously doesn't get you a prescription - has much impact on that. I feel like it's because Adderall is treated like some dangerous drug, access to it is so restricted that it hurts the people who could benefit from it, whether they have a diagnosis or not. For example, here's a Vox article stating that the recent Adderall shortage is due to the DEA literally setting a quota on its production because the specter of drug abuse looms so large. In contrast, it seems to me like with most supposed drugs, destigmatization and easier, legal availability would only have benefits, and it doesn't seem fair to me to blame repressive drug policies on the users.

Healthy happy well adjusted people do not fake mental illness. So there are people who fake mentally illness, they just happen to be mentally ill.

We've done today what nobody has ever done before: made being mentally ill cool.

The mentally ill have always been pitied, looked-down upon, given charity by good people, or ostracized. Never, ever in history have healthy people felt sad because they didn't have a mental illness.

I blame Twitter, not Tiktok. Twitter made it cool to list your mental illnesses in your bio, right where everyone could see them. For whites without any honored identities, they could claim to be mentally ill and thus gain status.
