FeinBERG (edited, not to be confused with FeinSTEIN) talks about this in Beyond Pink and Blue - something about how deaths caused by hate crimes weren't logged in apartheid South Africa when they were crimes such as a black man turning up in critical condition to a hospital, only for the racist white man to refuse him treatment. The man dies - his cause of death logged as kidney failure, when truly his cause of death was racial hatred. If I remember correctly, Feinberg talks about times their own illnesses were exacerbated by feckless or prejudiced doctors who refused treatment on the grounds of medical transphobia.

      CW transphobia, suicide

I actually have direct experience with this exact thing, about 10 years ago when I was in my first couple years of transitioning I lived in rural Appalachia and was in a car accident, had the first responders, medical professionals at the hospital, and investigating officer all question if I was trying to kill myself after I disclosed I was on HRT + I'm visibly trans, with a nurse telling me that my HRT made my injuries worse (bold faced lie) so I can 100% understand hir's position, obligatory death to America. Even though it was a no-fault accident, I ended up getting the blame for it after they said I intentionally crashed the vehicle (another bold faced lie) took many years to recover mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially.

Feinberg arguably died due to these bad experiences with doctors leading hir to avoid treatment.
