Work is full of coughing tourists with no masks and I really need the best protection. I wear 2 x kn-95 but I can feel myself getting sick with something mild

KN94 has similar effectiveness to N95 masks, which is probably good enough in most cases. There are masks with better protection like P100 respirators, but these are probably overkill and inconvenient for most uses. The biggest factor that most people, even healthcare workers, overlook is the fit of the mask because it doesn't matter how much the mask protects you if you have gaps where ambient air can flow in. I've heard KN94 masks can be slightly finicky in this regard, so switching to N95 might help but it just depends on your face shape. Also, no facial hair as that effectively nullifies (cuts efficiency in half) the protective properties of masks if it intersects with where the mask meets your face (a mustache might be okay, but no full beard).

KN95s don't seal very well at all on many people because they use earloops. Earloops just don't give you enough pressure to get a real good seal. They still help but they're probably inferior on your face to a good headloop N95. I'd recommend the 3M Aura. It fits a lot of people very well. Also, it's not recommended to double mask with a medical respirator. Doing so can deform the seal and doubling up on the filtration layer is not necessary.

Stoggles style are nice because they look fairly discreet. If you don't need prescription ones, there are cheap knockoffs all over Amazon. If you have glasses, you could try clip on side shields.

that doesnt seem like a bad idea, just something that seems to have good coverage to avoid spittle

A single N-95 is better than 2 KN-95s. An 95 has horizontal head straps instead of vertical ear straps, which is more protective because seals the mask against your face at 4 points instead of 2.

I use the ProGear RP88020, a popular choice by hospitals.

    Also important is

    • Once you wear a mask, don't wear it again for at least 6 days (I have 1 mask for each day of the week for simplicity)
    • Discard masks after 25 hours of total wear time or 3 uses
    • Don't try to wash or clean a mask. If a mask gets wet, that mask is toast
