    most vtubers just kinda make me uncomfortable. Even the ones that don't pretend to be children make my skin crawl.

      I find the only tolerable ones are the subgenre of queer/furry/ND ones that use the Vtuber model as a mask rather than a personality, tbh

        Yeah I think one of the most popular ones (CodeMiko) was a woman who didn't want to show her face so she developed the whole thing to just stream the digital avatar.

        Why even go to the effort though for just an avatar? Streaming was a mistake.

      It's the artificiality of "influencer" parasocial pretenses with additional layers of artificiality. It's a hard pass for me, even if it isn't kiddie-creepy.

      If someone's using it to protect their identity or to express themselves outside of their corporal forms, I'm happy for them but I still probably won't watch.
