The beast is way more charismatic than DeSantis, and more driven by base impulses. He’s closer to Trump than DeSantis, but the closest would probably be Rob Ford.

This demonstrates the beast’s cynical pragmatism. He’s basically correct, while Spider has some Sorkin-sauce liberal brain worms about democracy, because Warren Ellis does. The beast knows that the game is fucked and uses that knowledge to enrich himself so that he can have more and better treats. Anyone he hurts is a means to that end. DeSantis watched people force fed in gitmo and laughed. He’s more similar to the Smiler, who actively enjoys hurting people.
It’s really good, the alien arc is a really strong opener too.

His opponent in the comics also has extreme Mayo Pete vibes so it's entirely possible if we live in a cursed enough world we will just see the Transmetropolitan election arc play out in real time 🙃
