And I thought those camgirl profiles on Tinder were bad

I haven't been on the meetup apps since COVID, and I've never used the pay-to-chat sites, but I remember like 5 times in a row I matched with cleverly designed fakes. people who had realistic profiles and could talk, but would suddenly try to move the conversation to some pay-to-chat / age verification site that needed my CC numbers.

I'm sure I'm in the demo for easily duped tech illiterate, because I'm old. but it really started to seem like that entire world of the internet... the dating/hookup/lonely apps is like +90% scams.

I eventually realized the experience of using those apps was making me feel more isolated than just being single.

and just think how bad it will be when the humans behind the fake accounts are replaced by chatgpt and there's no limit to the scale of the operation

it'll be liberating in a way. stop paying attention to the whole world and get back to local, in-person culture

log off, tune in, drop out

yeah that's all valid and I don't know what it's going to look like yet but life finds a way

something will have to grow in the cracks or we might as well just redact ourselves

I used to work for a company that would post job ads and if you applied you'd get a call from an "education advisor" who would then try and trick you into enrolling in some for-profit college under the guise of "improving 'hireability'", like the University of Phoenix is going to help you get a job in a warehouse. :no-mouth-must-scream:
