My (very depressed) mother was very into Van Gogh when I was a teen, and I picked up much of his lore and story by reading the same books and watching the same documentaries she did. It's a heartbreaking and depressing story, and it might not have helped my baby-deppressed ass back then to be so bluntly exposed to the trials of a very mentally ill man, but it's also a very human and beautiful one, especially the relationship with his brother. Thanks for the warning, I will keep it in mind.
I never watched it, but all I need to know to know it's beautiful it's that it has Leanne La Havas' cover of Don McLean's "Vincent" in it.
CW It is very dark and focuses on the suicidal themes heavily.
The art work is nicer than the movie's plot and vibe.
